- Location:Choose a site with partial to full shade, especially in regions with hot afternoon sun. Rhododendrons prefer acidic, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
- Planting:Dig a hole as deep as the root ball and two to three times as wide. Place the rhododendron in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil.
- Spacing:Space rhododendrons according to their mature size, typically about 4 to 8 feet apart.
- Care:Water newly planted rhododendrons regularly until established. Once established, they prefer consistent moisture but can tolerate short periods of drought. Mulch around the plants to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Prune after flowering to shape the plant and remove dead or diseased branches.
